Merrymeeting Wheelers Bicycle Club (MWBC)

Midcoast Triathlon Club (MTC)

Toni Gatti, the V.P. of Operations for Waterfront Maine has offered us a space in Fort Andross for winter indoor cycling.

The space will be rented to us for a nominal fee which will cover utilities.  The rent will be month to month from November through April.

If you so choose, you will be able to leave your bike and wind trainer in an adjacent room between sessions.

The cost will be $10 a month per person.

Schedule

Initially, the schedule will be:

05:30 AM, Monday, Wednesday and Friday;

06:00 PM, Tuesday and Thursday; and

08:00 AM – Noon, Sundays.

It is of utmost importance that our group activities take place outside Ft. Andross’ business hours due to the parking crunch.  Expansion of the schedule outside business hours is no problem.

Location and Parking

Our indoor cycling space is located on the west side of Ft. Andross, under and behind the Flea Market.

To reach the space, drive on the road between the parking lots and turn into the small driveway across from ‘Something’s Fishy’ and go down behind Fr. Andross.

Parking is on the river side of the parking lot as the spaces on the building side are reserved for other tenants.

Keys

Tony will give us a number of keys, which we’ll distribute among the group leaders.

Since there will be audio-visual equipment, bikes, trainers and assorted gear in the space, we’ll need to have strict adherence to a lock-up policy.

Tony says they have no security issues at Ft. Andross.

Disclaimer

We will all need to sign a disclaimer with Waterfront Maine and MTC/MWBC before we start winter indoor cycling.

Group Leaders/Workouts

The initial concept is to have instructors or group leaders for most sessions. In that case, the group leader will structure the workout as Doug and Jim have done in the past. Other sessions will be built around the ‘Spinervals’ Indoor Cycling Workout Series and the group leaders’ primary responsibility will be to pop the tape in.

Sunday’s endurance workout could be facilitated with movies, Tour de France tapes, etc.

The idea is to balance our informal (laid back) and social workouts with enough structure to insure everyone has a valuable workout.

Towels

Each cyclist should have a small towel to drape over his or her bike and/or a large towel to protect the floor and be used for stretching and floor exercises.

Gear Policy

We have the opportunity to leave gear in storage areas within our space.  This includes bikes, wind trainers and miscellaneous items.  We ask that if you are leaving shoes, towels, clothing, DVDs, etc., that they be placed in a plastic bin labeled with your name and placed in the designated storage area.  At the end of each session, we’ll need to move our bikes into an adjacent designated space.

Fort Andross Tenants

Tony has asked that we invite his tenants to participate in our scheduled classes and that, based on demand, we offer a ‘tenant only’ session a couple times a week during business hours. Group leaders will need to integrate the tenants and other ‘newbies’ into our sessions at their level of training.

This is a great opportunity for us to promote our clubs and encourage biking.
